Purpose:
To provide additional support to the 4-H program for the county fair
Pay rate:
Typically $15.25-$21.00 per hour depending on qualifications; current undergrad college students are paid on the student pay scale - starting at $15.25. (Returning yr 2 $15.56, year 3 $15.87, yr 4 $16.18.)

Time required:
This position supports 4-H Showcase at the Pope County Fair for a total of 160-190 hours during the months of July and August.
Start date after July 6th, 2026.
Pre-Fair Events such as Pre Fair Cleanup on July 19th and the 4-H Horse Show on July 21st.
Pope County 4-H at the Pope County Fair from July 27th through August 2nd. (45-55 hours)
Post Fair has no required tasks, but time may be available based on scheduling and availability.
End date no later than August 21st.

Responsibilities may include:
Under the directive of the Extension Educator, or their designee:
Assist in preparing for 4-H participation at the fair, carrying out 4-H fair experiences, and completing post-fair tasks
Prepare materials for the county fair
Plan and implement 4-H events and programs during the county fair
Enforce fair board and 4-H rules and regulations; model standards for conduct; serve as a positive role model in language, appearance, and behavior
Promote the 4-H program to potential members, families, and volunteers
Other duties as assigned
Required qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required
Must be at least 18 years old by the start date
Basic experience with word processing, email, and internet browsers
Proficient in oral and written English communication skills
The ability to communicate effectively with youth, parents, adult volunteers, and staff
Good problem-solving skills and a solid understanding of risk management
A willingness to become familiar with and work within the philosophy and guidelines of University of Minnesota Extension, the Minnesota 4-H program, and the local 4-H program
Additional requirements/working conditions:
Must complete all required training, including but not limited to Safety of Minors and Civil Rights training
Ability to work evenings and weekends
Valid driver’s license and own means of transportation with required liability insurance. Mileage reimbursement provided in accordance with University policy
Must have the ability to lift, carry, pull, and push 20 pounds
Must be able to stand for 90 minutes at a time or sit for 90 minutes at a time. Some days will require hours of standing or sitting
Must be able to spend large amounts of time outdoors in summer weather conditions
Must complete University of Minnesota payroll paperwork, including completing an in-person I-9 (identification verification process), and have a successful completion of a background check with motor vehicle record review before the first day of work.
